LAMBTON COUNTY BRANCH

ONTARIO GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY

Since 15 August 1996.

Thank You and Enjoy

The Lambton County Branch is a non-profit organization of people sharing an interest in family history and genealogy. It was organized in 1984.

Our MEETINGS are usually held the 2nd Tuesday of each month excluding July & Aug. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1400 Murphy Rd., Sarnia. There is a Family History Centre located at this church. Occasionally meetings are held at various locations in the county. All interested persons are invited to attend. Click on MEETINGS to see our schedule of dates, topics and speakers.

To be a member of the Lambton branch you must first be a member of the Ontario Genealogical Society (OGS). The 2010 membership fee for OGS is $60.00, and the membership fee for the Lambton Branch is an additional $12.00 per year.

Lambton Lifeline, our quarterly publication, is sent to all members. It includes Queries (an announcement of request for information) , research information, family history articles, library additions, upcoming events of genealogical interest and our meetings.

The society helps its nearly 300 members and many others whose roots are in Lambton County locate early data and sometimes relatives.
Research requests for members and non-members are answered by our research team. A minimum fee of $15.00 must accompany request for research. We can also electronically search our new digitized information for a small fee. Click on Research requests for full details.

The branch has almost completed the transcription of all the Lambton County Cemeteries and many of  the Census . The branch has many Miscellaneous Publications dealing with the history and genealogy of Lambton County and its residents.

As each cemetery name index is computerized, that index will be available through the appropriate township cemetery page.

Many have had problems with our zip files, so indexes have been moved to the Ontario Genealogical Society site. You will find it much easier to search. Names (Surname and first name) will only appear once in the list regardless of the number of times the name occurs in the cemetery. Also the presence of the name does not necessarily mean that the person is buried in the cemetery. It just means that the name appears in an inscription or is an owner of a plot. Full details are in the published transcription.

Search Hints:
Once you are on the OGS Ontario Cemetery Ancestor Search page, enter your ancestor's last Name in the box at the bottom of the page. Fill in the other boxes to refine your search.
--Search multiple terms using the forward slash [/] for example Hillsdale/ Lambton
--Use the truncation symbol [*] to search for names with variant endings -for example Brown* to retrieve Brown, Browne and others.
--Once you find the name of an ancestor, search again using the Cemetery ID to browse the names of other people buried in the cemetery.

I.e.  If you put Cemetery name and Lambton you will bring up the full index for that cemetery!!
